Design By Nature; Using Universal Forms and Principals in Design with Maggie Macnab!
Be a Designer Now!
This lecture presentation emphasized Natures input on our thinking and making of things, encouraging us to “Remember what we know” and “Trust what gives us meaning.” Maggie talked about Design by Nature and ways to see how we are mentored in our thinking by this great designer, the natural world, teaching us our first lessons; Aesthetics (Enjoy the Ride) Efficiency (Go with the Flow), Natures Ethics (Everyone’s Business), Patterns (Nature’s Dynamics), Shapes (Nature’s Vocabulary), The Elements (Nature’s Sensuality) Structure (Building Beauty), Symmetry (Building Ballance in Two or More Parts), Messaging (A Meaningful Medium).
This is an amazing awareness to build on, and just the tip of the iceberg. Attendees saw examples and worked with 5 symbols(triangle, square, spiral, circle, and plus sign) to reflect their present affinities toward creating a personal symbol.
What I appreciated about this presentation and Maggies book are the design examples and the stories of designers, telling how they get ideas and work with their process to come to a finished design. This is also outlined in the Putting It into Practice list in Section One:Memory: Remembering What We Know. Here are listed 11 supports for working with any problem. Wonderful. This is a way to approach ANY of life’s problems. (Below is a page from the Book). Check it out ! Thanks Maggie!
