ARTIST STATEMENT

I’ve taken three years of high school art classes, plus additional classes in middle and elementary school. I’ve also made lots of art on my own, although it’s been mostly pencil drawings because of a lack of supplies outside of the classroom. I’ve always been very interested in realistic human figures and portraits, but recently I’ve started to develop a more personal style. While I still love to incorporate realism, I have started adding more surrealism. I enjoy making scenes and figures that are so odd and out of the ordinary, but with lots of details and realism so that the viewer can still relate the art to reality. I gravitate towards etchings, paintings, and drawings in pen or pencil, but I’m hoping to broaden my range of mediums.

I have lots of confidence in my technical skills as an artist, so what I want to do now is continue to develop a unique and meaningful style. I hope to do so through lots of experimentation, work, and resources, which this fellowship would greatly assist.
